No Hot Water - What to Check?

On-demand hot water is a luxury we take for granted. It can disrupt day-to-day life in an enormous way when it's not there

No Hot Water

There is nothing more distressing than turning on the taps to find that hot water has abandoned you in your hour of need. When it’s freezing outside, or you’ve endured the day from hell, a cold shower is probably up there with the last things you need. But there's no need to panic.

There are a variety of reasons why having no hot water may occur. There may also be times when it still works when the central heating is on but the shower still doesn't.

At Greenflame we ensure that any boiler problems you face are solved with our expert gas safe engineers. You can contact us at info@greenflameplumbingandheating.co.uk or give us a call 07971 651 849 or 07429 250 903. We'll look forward to hearing from you soon.

Time for a combi boiler service?

There may be a pressure problem with your combi boiler resulting in it not generating hot water. You may not be able to get hot water from your combi boiler if this happens. The pressure should be checked if you don't have hot water and if you haven't yet identified the cause.

There are several reasons why your house might not have hot water. A qualified gas engineer should always be contacted if you have any doubts about the safety of your gas appliances.

The causes for no hot water may include:

Fuse box

In the event that your boiler is the only appliance not working in your house, you may want to check with your fuse box to see if any switches have tripped, which would prevent power from reaching the boiler.

Pilot light

Pilot lights can go out for several reasons, especially in older boilers, but they are often easy to fix. Depending on the make and model of your boiler, your manual will detail specific instructions for getting your pilot light back on.

Boiler pressure

Boilers should operate between 1 and 2 bars of pressure. A pressure gauge built into your boiler allows you to measure its pressure. It is ideal if your boiler is re-pressurized if it's under one - 1.5 is ideal.

Hot water tank

In order to ensure your taps are supplied with warm water, make sure that your hot water tank is set at the right temperature and timing.

Time to call a gas engineer

If none of the above is the cause of your boiler issues, or if you’re unsure, then it’s time to contact a professional engineer to take a look.
