Boiler repair and replacement specialists

Green Flame Plumbing and Heating are boiler repair and replacement specialists based in Pontyclun, South Wales.

Boilers can operate for years, even decades, but when should you replace one for efficiency's sake - and your own finances? The core of your home's central heating system is the boiler, but odds are you'll have to replace it once or twice in your lifetime. However, how can you know when it's time to replace it? Are there any warning signs?

How Can I Tell If My Boiler Has to be Replaced?

Recurring Breakdowns

Of course, if your boiler breaks down every now and then, leaving you without a shower, radiators, or taps, that's not a cause to replace it. If you find yourself having to call an engineer to fix it frequently, consider whether the expense of repairs is larger than the cost of a new boiler. To put it another way, has it become unprofitable to operate?

Tip: If you have to call an engineer more than once a year, it's time to upgrade your boiler.

It's Not Working As Well As It Used To

If your central heating system isn't working well or isn't meeting your demands, you should consider replacing it. If your radiators are taking longer to warm up than they should or used to, or if you have to adjust your boiler's pressure on a frequent basis, it's time for a replacement.

Bills Are Randomly Increasing

Have you heard of a boiler's "efficiency rating"? If you have, do you understand what a boiler implies in terms of your home energy bills? In other words, a less efficient boiler will cost you more to operate. Most modern boilers are A-rated, which means they have an efficiency of more than 90%, whereas G-rated boilers have an efficiency of 70% or less.

If your boiler's efficiency declines as it gets older, you may see an increase in your bills. Upgrading from a G to an A-rated boiler will save you between £200 and £300 per year, but you must compare the cost of a new boiler.
