Why Is My Boiler Losing Pressure?

Losing pressure on your boiler is the most common way for a boiler to break down.

Boiler Pressure

The most common reasons for a boiler to lose pressure are:

  • Any leaks from the pressure relief valve;
  • A problem with the expansion vessel;
  • A leak appeared in the heating pipework;
  • Recently bled radiators.

It is very important to understand the issue because it can result in no hot water and even loss of central heating. Most central heating pipes for modern homes are hidden behind walls, cupboards, or panels. A leak can be difficult to detect in this situation.

At Greenflame we ensure that any boiler problems you face are solved with our expert gas safe engineers. You can contact us at info@greenflameplumbingandheating.co.uk or give us a call 07971 651 849 or 07429 250 903. We'll look forward to hearing from you soon.

How dangerous is low boiler pressure?

Having low water pressure simply means that your boiler isn't capable of pushing water around your home. If you are experiencing problems with a boiler, we always suggest that you contact an expert Gas Safe registered heating engineer because boilers use gas, and Carbon Monoxide poisoning is extremely dangerous.

Will I need a boiler repair if it is losing pressure?

You will need to determine whether your boiler is in need of repair or if you require a new boiler installation.

Most serious boiler problems are challenging to diagnose by a layman, and DIY repairs involving removing the boiler casing should never be attempted by anyone other than trained heating professionals. In addition to being dangerous, doing so may invalidate the boiler's warranty.

Boiler services are essential for keeping your boiler in efficient working order, diagnosing problems early, and for reducing costly repairs.

Consult a gas safe engineer if in doubt

Depending on the specific cause of the problem, you might be able to fix it yourself, but if you have even the slightest suspicion that it’s something more than the expected slow drop over time, it pays to call a gas engineer to get things sorted.

It may even be possible for you to provide your engineer with all the information they need over the phone if you spot a potential problem beforehand. Having this information will allow them to know exactly what to do. Having your boiler fixed efficiently and quickly will minimize disruption to your daily routine.
